KJM Renewables Ltd in
conjunction with Imagination Solar have designed into our systems a Drain
back facility. This simply means that once the hot water is at 80C or there is
no sunlight to heat the system, the pump ceases to circulate water through the
system. When this happens the water in the system automatically drains back
into the control unit, which also holds the water reservoir, by the means of a
gravity siphon effect. This means that there is no water left in the system
when it is not working and therefore nothing to freeze and cause damage. It
also means that anti freeze chemicals are not required. This chemicals when
added reduce the efficiency of the system.
The Low Flow Drain Back system comprises three main components as
follows:-
1) A 2.7 sq metre solar collector
The solar collector is designed for roof integration which means that it fits
in place of the existing tiles/slates and forms an integral part of the roof.
There are kits available for flat roofs.
2) A pre assembled control unit
The control units comprises a pump and the collector reservoir alongside the
electronic micro processor control system. The DC pump requires 20 Volts DC and
will start when a sensor on the solar collector registers sufficient solar
energy striking the panel.
3) A Hot water cylinder with specific solar heat exchanger coil
The are various hot water cylinders available depending upon the individual
requirements of each location. They all have 60 mm of CFC free insulation
and the micro bore heat exchanger is designed to provide the maximum heat
transfer. A temperature sensor will switch off the pump when the 80C level is
reached. All the cylinders have boiler inputs as well.
