KJM renewables systems, in association with Imagination Solar, are designed around a minimum maintenance, low energy principle using siphonic drain back form freeze and boil protection. This reduces or eliminates the need for antifreeze and associated maintenance.

The system is designed so that in low light conditions, or when the cylinder reaches 80C, the pump will switch off. Water inside the solar collector drains back into a small insulated vessel by means of gravity siphon effect
That is started by the difference in heads. This is like siphoning petrol from your petrol tank.

The drain back unit is normally situated in a non freezing area of your house so the problem of the water freezing is removed. In addition, the very low flow nature of this system allows the use of a very low power pump which can be powered from a small solar panel mounted next to the solar collector.

The drain back unit consists of a low power diaphragm water pump alongside an insulated drain back container.( please see diagram below). It is connected to the solar collector by high temperature silicon rubber hoses which are colour coordinated with the panel. The unit is complete with microprocessor control, light level sensor, cylinder thermostat, pipe clips and an earth connection.
